Brazilian Grand Prix Drivers and São Paulo Grand Prix Facts

Did you know there have been 32 Brazilian F1 drivers in total? The most famous of whom is probably the legendary, three-time world champion, Ayrton Senna. However, many of you will also be fans of more recent Brazilian drivers Rubens Barrichello and Felipe Massa who have had some fantastic F1 achievements in their own right.

To date, there have been five Brazilian F1 winners of the São Paulo Grand Prix – Emerson Fittipaldi, Nelson Piquet, Ayrton Senna, Felipe Massa and Carlos Pace. It might come as a surprise to most, but French Formula One driver, Alain Prost, is the one who holds the title for most race wins at the Interlagos circuit. However, we’re sure you can all agree that one of the most memorable Brazilian Grand Prix wins of all time was achieved by Ayrton Senna in 1991. He said his gearbox ‘went crazy’ so he had to leave it ‘in sixth’ and ‘drive around the circuit completely differently’. He was absolutely exhausted by the end of the race but it was an incredible feat!
